Dear District 56!
Looking at the calendar, it is difficult to believe that we are in the final stages of our 2011-2012 Toastmaster Year! As we look back at the fun we have had in our club meetings and in our contests at the different levels, it brings back fond memories of our Toastmaster friends.
We have a chance to share this wonderful organization with others by participating in the Toastmasters International membership drive called Beat the Clock!
Beat the Clock runs from the 1st of May through the 30th of June 2012.
Major Rodriguez, Communication and Leadership Award Recipient
Emilio Rodriguez, Major, USA (Ret), Senior Army Instructor
Major Rodriguez has spent the last 24 years as a Junior ROTC teacher at Reagan High School, just north of downtown Houston. This HISD School is predominantly Hispanic, and lower income. These kids need a mentor, and Major Rodriguez is the adult mentor willing to give of his time and talents, to show these kids they can do more than their parents and other family members before them. They have to learn that their potential is limitless, if they allow themselves the chance to get that better education and really make something of themselves. Major Rodriguez has worked with approximately 3500 kids over the last 24 years, and has helped them see their own potential and reach farther than they ever imagined.
